What is Vermicompost?

Vermicompost is the product of decomposition of organic waste using earthworms (Eisenia fetida). It’s rich in nutrients, supports microbial activity, and improves soil fertility sustainably.

⚙️ How to Prepare Vermicompost – Windrow Method

Select a shaded location with good drainage.
Prepare a rectangular bed (approx. 3.5-4 feet width, any convenient length) and cover all sides with bricks for stability.
Lay a plastic sheet or thick tarpaulin at the bottom to prevent nutrient leaching and worm escape.
Add a layer of well-decomposed cow dung (moist, but not waterlogged).
Introduce Eisenia fetida worms at the rate of 1 kg worms per 1 ft bed length.
Cover the bed with moist gunny bags or a 70% green shade net to protect from sunlight and pests.
Maintain moisture at around 50–60% by sprinkling water (avoid chlorinated water).
Do not turn or disturb the bed during processing.
After 40–60 days, start harvesting from the top layer, moving downward layer by layer.
